This year has been A LOT of things. A shit show. Anxiety filled. The year of the eye roll and face palm. It was also the year we stood up for our beliefs and our rights and those of others around the world.
I know that this year I have paid what seems an overwhelming attention to politics and international affairs. The year started off with a lot face palms and ended with even more eye rolls. I really think that at one point I rolled my eyes at thought of nuclear war. I was so fed up with everything and filled to the brim with crazy events and their mishandling that by the end of this year the thought of nuclear war was a simple annoyance.
I recognize that politically we will still be entering a tension-filled 2018. The fight for our rights and beliefs will need to stay strong. In the midst of all of that, however, I call for more a cognizance of that good that will be happening.
2017 may have been chaotic and emotionally trying, but there were still good deeds done and accomplishments made. People came together to aid those affected by tragedy and by hate. Even within our own lives it is easy to get lost in the negative.
Through Blogmas, I chose to reflect on some of the good in my life. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of things that I accomplished this year. Even more poignant, however, was the fact that the year itself didn’t feel that amazing as it was happening. Being hyper cognizant of politics and the day-to-day trudge of life, those amazing things slipped through the cracks.
In 2018, I challenge myself to be more aware of all the good stuff throughout the year, and not just at the end of it.
I hope you have enjoyed today or continue to do so depending on your time zone.
Happy holidays,
