My Fasting Experience

There have been a few times in my life, especially this last year, where I have experimented with 24-hour fasts. When done correctly, fasting can be very therapeutic and healing for the body. I was interested in experiencing these benefits, so I decided to take on the challenge of a 24-hour fast.

Granted, there are many types of fasts, from dry fasts to juice fasts, and they also vary in length. Given that I was, and still am, a newbie, l figured a whole day with just water would be challenge enough.

I wmy-fasting-experienceas extremely correct. I was tired by mid-day, took a nap, had a difficult time getting things done, and by 7pm, I had a headache. However, much of this can be attributed to the detoxification process. One of the reasons people often feel awful during a fast is due to the fact that toxins that have been stored in the body are finally being released into the bloodstream so that they may be disposed of.

I must say that the lack of focus was not surprising. The moment that I am the slightest bit hungry, I can no longer work on anything. The fast definitely intensified this, which is why I chose to fast on a Sunday, when I didn’t have much planned other than clean and relax.

I often bring up consistency when discussing fitness. However, it is just as important when considering one’s health. Through my research, I have learned that a weekly 24-hour fast can be very beneficial. However, with all of the work that I have, a whole day where I am completely zonked does not sound practical.

This could be an excuse, and I have often struggled with time management, which better time management seems to be the solution to many of life’s problems. I am juggling quite a bit of things, and I have the desire to do much more.

I must admit that one full day of relaxation and self care does also seem appealing. I am not done with fasting. I want to work it into my life in a practical and consistent way. The benefits just seem too appealing.
